Permits have been issued for the construction of the University of Pennsylvania’s Ott Center for Track and Field at 2910 South Street in University Center, West Philadelphia. Designed by CANNOdesign, the $69.3 million development will be located at the on the southwest corner of the campus on the Schuylkill River waterfront, between the Schuylkill River Expressway and a railroad track and just beneath the South Street Bridge. The complex will span 72,000 square feet and will feature an indoor track and field facility with a banked track, long and high jump pits, a throwing area, and 990 spectator seats.
The complex bears a full name of the Jane and David Ott Center for Track & Field. The complex, which will incorporate an existing prewar structure, will rise 63 feet high at the highest point, making for a visible presence along the waterfront. The project’s scale has increased notably since a previous proposal that measured 63,000 square feet. The development was first announced in October of 2019 with a projected completion date of 2022, but currently completion is expected in 2024.
