Permits have been issued for the construction of a three-story, four-unit affordable multi-family development at 2100 Sharswood Street in Sharswood, North Philadelphia. Designed by Urban Practice, the development is related to the six-unit project at 2106 Harlan Street. Ten affordable units will be added to the block as a result.
The building will feature a similar exterior to the project at 2106 Harlan Street, with its blend of brick and siding materials. This project will see a higher usage of brick, as it covers the entire ground floor, rising to the building’s full height in columns on the front side and to the second floor on the back side. The rest of the building will be coated in siding material, giving it a mildly suburban look with its asphalt-shingled roof.
The development is replacing a vacant lot, as with most other projects in the neighborhood. The lot is surrounded by a wooden fence and consists of a mowed grass lawn. Overall, the removal of this lot insignificant to the surrounding neighborhood, and will help set the stage for a reasonably sized affordable development. Though it does not have the most attractive design, adding these affordable units is a major win for the city as a whole.
No completion date is known for the project at this time.
