Demolition permits have been filed for a two-story rowhouse at 4019 Haverford Avenue in the Haverford North neighborhood of West Philadelphia. The property, which sits located close to the corner of Haverford Avenue and North Preston Street, is owned by 4019 Haverford Avenue LLC.
The site is currently occupied by a small, brick-clad attached structure that is deeply set back from the sidewalk. The building’s small size and deep setback, which is filled by an overgrown front yard, is a rarity for an area where most buildings stand three stories tall and form a street wall along the sidewalk.
The permits describe the demolition as minor, though the entire two story masonry structure will be demolished. Also, the demolition will be done by hand. The document also indicates pedestrian protection, likely scaffolding along the sidewalk.
The building sits within close proximity to the Philadelphia Zoo, while the trolley on the nearby Lancaster Avenue offers access to University City and Center City.
