Permits have been issued for the construction of a 30-unit multi-family building at 916 North 51st Street in Mill CreekWest Philadelphia. Upon completion, the building will rise three stories tall, with a roof deck situated at its pinnacle. Amenities will include a community room and parking. In total, the building will hold 38,397 square feet of space, with construction costs estimated at $10,189,759. Nancy Bastian is listed as the project’s design professional, with the T N Ward Company specified as the contractor.

Currently, a blighted three-story building stands at the site. The building exhibits a blue-painted exterior with small windows and air conditioning units. The structure will need to be demolished to make way for the planned development, although the loss will not be unfortunate for the area.

The new building will add a significant amount of density to the area as is one of the largest developments planned in the neighborhood. If successful, the project could become a catalyst for more multi-family buildings to be constructed in the area, which would help turn the tide of the neighborhood’s postwar decline.

No completion date is known at this time, though construction may be finished by 2022 or 2023.

  1. Mill Creek! It’s great to see large investments drift to the northwest out of University City. This is a neighborhood with great transportation and great potential – but has been ignored forever.
