Permits have been issued for interior alterations at a mix-use new construction building at 1111-17 South Broad Street in Graduate Hospital, South Philadelphia. The permit lists the addition of a new bank at the ground floor with new wall partitions, finishes, and furnishings. The total construction area will is listed at 1,931 square feet. Permit name Mark A. Coan of the IEI Group as the design professional and Grace Construction Management CO LLC as the primary contractor. Construction cost is specified at $493,494.
This current addition sits at the ground floor of the newly added four stories with 53 residential units, which boost the density of the up-and-coming Washington Avenue area. It has not yet been made public which bank will occupy the space. A Chase Bank currently sits across Washington Avenue within 400 feet at 1000 South Broad Street, which left some locals wondering about the need for a new financial institution in a retail space that could easily support new business or recreation space instead, in an area that will be steadily evolving over the next few years.
The building faces the historic Marine Club apartment complex, a classic revival five-story red stone structure built in 1904 to 1908 by the Marine Corps, which produced military hardware during World War II. The building was converted to housing in 2010. A vacant Papa John’s pizza restaurant occupies the northern side of the structure, and a Circle Thrift Store sits across Alter Street to the buildings south.
There is currently no set date for the completion of the project.
