Permits have been issued for renovations at Yorktown Arms at 1400 North 13th Street in Yorktown, North Philadelphia. The four-story, 56-unit residential building will be receiving major work that includes the replacement of walls, floors, cabinetry and more. The total construction area will span 28,400 square feet. CICADA Architecture/Planning is specified as the design professional and T.N. Ward Company as the contractor. Construction costs are listed at $948,131.

The building sits just south of Temple University and provides affordable housing units to seniors. Renovations were announced in early 2020 and are nearing full completion. Much of the budget will go to modernizing appliances and common areas. The last major alteration to the property took place in the 1990s. A large portion of the construction cost was covered by the city’s Division of Housing and Community Development. To live in Yorktown Arms, members will have to be at least 60 years old and make between 40-60 percent of the areas median household income.

The area offers a multitude of amenities and a central location to gain access to the Broad Street Line, along with bus routes, along pharmacies, restaurants and The Fresh Grocer supermarket all located within walking distance. The neighborhood also is also home to many events and pop-ups for recreation. Modernizing the space will bring a new vibrancy to the area.

Completion of the project is expected within the next two months.
