Renderings have been revealed for a large multi-family development at 2200-58 Somerset Street in Port Richmond, Kensington. Designed by HDO Architecture, the project will rise up to six stories and will include 535 residential units. Building one will hold 187 units, building two will hold 170, building three – 145, as well as 11 triplexes. 179 parking spaces are planned at the lot, with nine set to be accessible, 10 reserved for electric vehicles, and 17 reserved carshare spaces. Additionally, 293 bike stalls are planned, plus 35 set to sit on the sidewalk.

Renderings show a complex of modern buildings that will stand out from their surroundings. The multi-family buildings will feature mostly black cladding, with some white cladding and blue cladding as an accent. Brick piers will span portions of the ground floor and will rise up the structures. The triplexes will feature mostly red brick on the bottom two floors, with white cladding on the top floor and on the sides, with black cladding at the rear.

A sizable amount of greenery will be included in the development, with 26 street trees and a considerable amount of green space arranged as pocket parks. The greenery will shade the sidewalks and improve the pedestrian experience in the area.

The new complex will replace a junkyard. A foreboding concrete wall separates the property from the street, with piles of abandoned cars and assorted metal equipment lie behind the wall.

The project will vastly improve the use of the property, and will make the area along the rail lines much nicer. The elimination of the eyesore junkyard is improvement enough, with the elimination of a pedestrian-unfriendly wall and the addition of large quantities of green space serving as further bonuses. The addition of so much residential space will vastly increase the density of the area and will help bridge Port Richmond with East Kensington to the south.

I love how so much of the newer development has greenrooves and green space in the plan, including the trees on the sidewalk too! Its not much but it does help with the urban heat island!
Love it! Don’t don’t want to wish away the time but this project can’t happen anytime to soon!
