Permits have been filed for the demolition of a three-story rowhouse at 1808 North 18th Street in the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood of North Philadelphia within the Temple University area. The building sits near the corner of North 18th Street and West Montgomery Avenue. The property is owned by 1917 North 5th Street LLC.
The site is located on the west side of the block between West Montgomery Avenue and West Berks Street. The prewar building, which sits next to a twin structure to the south at 1806 North 18th Street, has been altered significantly since its original construction and holds marginal, if any, historic value.
The property sits just a few blocks west of Temple University, which is a major contributor to the neighborhood’s active real estate development. A number of municipal amenities and institutions may be found within the surrounding blocks, such as the Wagner Free Institute of Science, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Police 22nd-23rd Precinct station, George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science, and more.
