Renovations are planned for International House, a 14-story, 221,000-square-foot building at 3701 Chestnut Street in University City, West Philadelphia. The Brutalist building’s number of residential units will rise from the current 346 to 400, and a grocery store will take up the ground floor. A new 14-story wing will be built on the side of the property fronting Chestnut Street, replacing a plaza. The developer, CSC Co-Living, has secured a $33 million loan for the project.

There is a chance that the property may be deemed historical, in which case any changes to the façade would require approval by the historical commission. Otherwise, University City will add further bulk its ever-growing skyline.

The property is situated between 37th Street and 38th Street, in the heart of the booming neighborhood and within walking distance to multiple universities. The site sits within a 15-minute ride to Center City via the Market-Frankford SEPTA line.
