Permits have been filed for the demolition of a two-story rowhouse at 6143 Walnut Street in Cobbs Creek, West Philadelphia. The prewar single-family dwelling is located between South 61st Street and South 62nd Street and will be torn down as part of the City of Philadelphia Demolition Program. The property is owned by Mary Louis Ashmore. The contractor listed for the work is Thomas Curran.
The building features a brick exterior, a covered porch and a siding-covered bay window on the second floor. Upon demolition, the site will become a noticeable gap in an otherwise intact row of prewar homes. As part of the work, stucco will be added to the sides of 6141, 6145, 6130 and 6134 Walnut Street. An erosion control mat will be placed at the site.
The 21 bus stops down the block to the west at the corner of Walnut Street and South 62nd Street. The 60th and 63rd Street stations of the Market-Frankford SEPTA line are located a few blocks to the northeast and northwest, respectively. Two long blocks to the east is the Sayre High School at 5800 Walnut Street. Cobbs Creek Park is located several blocks to the southwest and Haddington Woods is located several blocks to the northwest.
