Renderings Revealed For 933 North Penn Street In Northern Liberties, North Philadelphia

Renderings have been revealed for a 196-unit multi-family development at 933 North Penn Street in Northern Liberties, North Philadelphia. Designed by HDO Architecture, the building will rise seven stories tall and will include space for 57 cars and 66 bicycles. The building will feature a modern exterior that will feature brick at the ground floor, with white cladding at the upper floors, paired with black panels by the windows.

Unfortunately, the ground floor somewhat detracts from the building’s design, where the majority of its four faces are blank walls that takes away from the structure’s street presence. A somewhat redeeming feature is the planned park along the Delaware River that will include outdoor seating and space for food trucks, which may help the green space become a destination for residents and workers in the surrounding area.

The new building will replace a parking, lot among an unfortunate high number in the area. The property also has frontage to an abandoned pier reaching out into the Delaware River. Overall, though, the site is a major eyesore with almost no interesting features.

The new building will be a major improvement for the site, replacing a greatly-underused eyesore with a new seven-story building that will house nearly 200 residential units. The inclusion of a new green space along the River is just another added bonus. However, it does seem that the site could use a little bit more height, and definitely deserves a nicer street presence than what current renderings offer, but perhaps the latter of these two suggestions could be changed in the final iteration.
