A recent visit by Philly YIMBY has revealed that completion approaches at a three-story mixed-use building at 4328 Main Street in Manayunk, Northwest Philadelphia. The development will feature four residential units and ground-floor commercial space, as well as a roof deck. Construction costs are listed at $600,000.

The development is situated in the center of Manayunk’s riverfront commercial district, a block south of Pretzel Park and across from Venetian Island. Developers paid homage to the surrounding historic district with an exquisite traditionalist façade that emulates prewar neighbors with an exterior of red brick, narrow sash windows, and an articulated cornice.

The site would easily be able to support a much greater number of residential units, given its transit-accessible site (the Manayunk Station on the regional rail is situated within a five-minute walk to the northwest). However, given its historic, low-rise context, the current building is a great fit for its surroundings, in great part thanks to its finely designed and constructed exterior. We wish to see this degree of design and material quality on more projects throughout the city, large and small alike.

  1. This turned out really nice. And agree, wish we could build more new construction with this much care given to the surrounding environment.
