Permits have been filed for the demolition of a vacant two-story prewar structure at 6038 Spruce Street in Cobbs Creek, West Philadelphia. The former single-family dwelling is located on a block between Spruce Street and Delancey Street. The building will be torn down as part of the City of Philadelphia Demolition Program. The cost of the work is $34,699. The property is owned by Mary Jas Duncan Briggs. The contractor listed for the work is RDS Contracting Group Inc.
The structure features a red brick exterior, a covered porch and a bay window on the second floor. It appear that a similar property once stood at the vacant site to the east, judging by the design of the porch canopy and the row of similar buildings along the block. According to the documents, no stucco will be added to the adjacent property nor will there be sidewalk replacement.
The 42 bus on the 61st-Pine Line or the Wycombe Line stops down the street at the corner of Spruce Street and South 61st Street. Cobbs Creek Park sits two and a half long blocks to the west.
