Permits have been filed for the demolition of a two-story single-family dwelling at 606 Emily Street in Wharton, South Philadelphia. The prewar property is located between South 6th Street and South 7th Street and will be torn down as part of the City of Philadelphia Demolition Program at a cost of $17,000. The property is owned by Mortgage Investments LLC. The contractor listed for the work is Thomas Curran.
The brick-clad structure features a decorated cornice at the top. Following the demolition, stucco will be added to the future blank walls of 604 and 608 Emily Street next door. The sidewalk in front of the property will also be replaced and an erosion control mat with seed on lot will be added to the site.
The 79 bus stops two short blocks to the south at the corner of Snyder Avenue and South 6th Street. The bus stop is served by the 79 bus daily. Down the street from the stop to the west is the Ford PAL Recreational Center at 609 Snyder Avenue, offering a pool and a playground. The Snyder Street station of the Broad Street SEPTA line sits within a 10 to 15-minute walk to the west.
