Permits have been issued for the construction of a five-story multi-family structure at 231 West Johnson Street in Morton, Northwest Philadelphia. The 35,519-square-foot structure will hold 32 residential units and parking on the ground floor. 231 W Johnson St. LLC is the listed owner.
The project will rise alongside a chateau-like multi-family building with a stately façade clad in stone. Rounded projections and a mansard roof make for an appearance unique for the area. A newer addition is attached to the rear of the building, using similar materials but featuring a simpler, boxy shape. While renderings are not available for the planned development, it is possible that it will also use comparable materials and will look similar to the existing addition.
The project is surrounded by large multi-family complexes. An abundance of trees and green space surrounds the building site. Transit access is offered via the Upsal Station of the SEPTA Regional Rail, located a short walk away. Also nearby is the Germantown Avenue commercial corridor, where a variety of restaurants and businesses are located.
Morton is a quiet enclave, situated between the larger Germantown and Mount Airy neighborhoods, which boast a variety of elegant homes. While new construction is not very common in the neighborhood, more development is likely to take place in the area due to the growing popularity of Northwest Philadelphia.
No completion date is known yet.
