A six-story, 179-unit residential building is planned at 1705 North American Street in Norris Square, North Philadelphia. Designed by Atrium Design Group, the building will stand 77 feet tall and replace a vacant grassy lot and a commercial building occupied by Drexel Foods. The structure will take up an entire block, standing out from the predominantly rowhouse neighborhood, and will feature a modern design with stone cladding, a rarity for the area. The 189,000-square-foot building will also feature commercial and retail space.
The shape of the building consists of two H-shaped masses, connected at one side. In the center, a plaza will offer open space and a café. The rooftop will feature an expansive amenity deck for the residents, with a panoramic views of the Center City skyline located to the south. The building will stand in a desolate area, and will likely generate greater developer interest in the area.

It’s not desolate. People live here. It’ll be another monstrosity of a large apartment building from greedy developers.
