The $4 billion Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia expansion is underway at 3501 Civic Center Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia, and one of the buildings within the project will soon complete construction. Designed by Perkins + Will, the CHOP Hub for Clinical Collaboration rises just to the south of the CHOP Buerger Center. The building rises 377 feet and 19 floors high.

The building, which features a wonderfully crafted stone and glass exterior was proposed back in April 2019, two months before the SLS International Hotel was revealed to be revived into Arthaus. Site work was quickly underway in October, and construction had started with the caisson installation in the same month. The first crane was on site in February 2020, and two more cranes joined in the next few months. The concrete core was above ground by September, and was quickly rising with steel eventually following. The core had topped out in February 2021, just like Arthaus, and the building received its exterior in May with the building topping out in late July.

The tower cranes that supported the tower during the construction were placed in unordinary spots, as the southwest crane was placed next to HVAC space, while the other two cranes were placed on top of the CHOP Buerger Center. So far, the two tower cranes that were on top of the neighboring CHOP tower have been taken down, as a derrick crane is still in place at the top. The southwest crane is currently being taken down by each mast section. Curiously, there has been no progress on the metal cladding for the pinnacle of the building for the past six months.

The building has an anticipated completion date of 2023.
