Philadelphia YIMBY’s recent site visit has noted that construction work is nearing completion at a three-story, nine-unit mixed-use building underway at 1700 Frankford Avenue in Fishtown. The structure stands on the northwest corner of Frankford Avenue and East Columbia Avenue. Designed by Ambit Architecture, the development will span 13,924 square feet and will include ground-floor commercial space and a basement. Permits list GRIT Construction as the contractor and list a construction cost of $2.175 million.

Permits for 1700 Frankford Avenue were issued in late May 2023, around the same time as permits for a smaller sister building next door at 1704 Frankford Avenue, developed by the same project team. Both new structures employ a traditionally-styled architectural design.

  1. Fits right in. =Jim

  2. Why doesn’t somebody do what Steve Cohen is doing with the Shea Stadium in Queens. Out of 50 acres, he is making a 20 acre green space! We have hardly any green spaces in Center City. let alone a street tree.
