Completion approaches at The Retro, a five-story, 21-unit development at 1836-44 East York Street in East Kensington. Developed by the Stamm Development Group, the project will include a commercial space on the ground floor and a roof deck at the top, which will offer sweeping views of the skyline. Grit Construction is the contactor. The building will feature a modern façade with white brick is on the lower floors and gray cladding on the upper levels. Black cladding accents the corners, adding texture to the design. Renderings show trees along the sidewalk, which will cast shade and enhance the street ambiance.
Façade installation is well underway, with white brick and windows already installed. The project will soon see the installation of the remainder of the cladding, as well as interior finishes.
The project sits steps away from the York-Dauphin station on the Market-Frankford SEPTA line, providing convenient transit access to Center City and other destinations. Norris Square Park is also just a short walk away. Also within walking distance are the Front Street and Frankford Avenue commercial corridors. The building’s incoming residents will be beneficial to businesses along these corridors, while the addition of a retail space on an otherwise non-commercial street will boost pedestrian presence.
The project is expected to finish in spring.
