Philadelphia YIMBY’s recent site visit has observed that construction has topped out and the glass curtain wall has risen around halfway at 1620 Sansom Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Hunter Roberts Construction Group as the contractor, the 340-foot-tall, 28-story tower will offer 306 residential units, while the ground-floor commercial space will further enliven the already vibrant local streetscape.

Construction Underway at 36-42 South 2nd Street in Old City

A recent site visit by Philadelphia YIMBY has noted that construction is well underway at a seven-story, 61-unit mixed-use development at 36-42 South 2nd Street (also known as 36-38 South 2nd Street) in Old City. The project replaces a parking lot on the west side of the block between Market and Chestnut streets. Designed by CANNOdesign, the building will span 51,623 square feet and will feature ground-level retail, a cellar, and a shared roof deck. Permits list the Tester Construction Group as the contractor and specify a construction cost of $10.5 million.

Permits Issued for UPenn’s Ott Center for Track and Field in University City, West Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the construction of the University of Pennsylvania’s Ott Center for Track and Field at 2910 South Street in University Center, West Philadelphia. Designed by CANNOdesign, the $69.3 million development will be located at the on the southwest corner of the campus on the Schuylkill River waterfront, between the Schuylkill River Expressway and a railroad track and just beneath the South Street Bridge. The complex will span 72,000 square feet and will feature an indoor track and field facility with a banked track, long and high jump pits, a throwing area, and 990 spectator seats.
