Permits have been filed for the demolition of a three-story rowhouse at 871 North 20th Street in Fairmount, North Philadelphia. The single-family prewar structure spans a 896-square-foot footprint and features a plain red brick façade with a front stoop and a cornice at the top. The property is owned by 871 N 20th LLC.
The structure sits on the east side of the street, between a vacant lot and a near-identical building at 873 North 20th Street.
Down the street to the south sits the compact Ogden Park, which appears to span a site where buildings had once stood, and features a lawn, benches, trees, and a painted mural. The Eastern State Penitentiary, a massive prison opened in 1829 that currently serves as a museum, is located three blocks to the southwest at 2027 Fairmount Avenue. Two blocks to the north sits the 43-acre campus of Girard College, which opened in 1848. The 33 bus and the Girard Avenue trolley feature stops within a short walking distance.
