Permits have been filed for the demolition of a vacant single-story commercial building at 648 North 40th Street in Belmont, West Philadelphia. The property is located at the corner of North 40th Street and Fairmont Avenue. ATL Development Corporation is the listed owner.
The small structure sits deep within the lot and looks to measure around 15 feet on each side, with the entrances and windows blocked off by wood panels. The building is rather hidden from the street with densely overgrown vegetation. According to the documents, all of the structures on the lot will be completely demolished.
The building sits at the southern edge of Belmont near the border of Mantua to the east. The 31 and 40 buses stop at the corner. The 10 trolley and 43 bus stop a block to the south at Lancaster Avenue, a major commercial corridor. The 40th Street Station of the SEPTA Market-Frankford Line sits within a 10-minute walk to the south at the corner of Market Street and South 40th Street and a 15-minute walk of University City to the southeast. Nearby is the Belmont Charter School located at 4030 Brown Street, two blocks to the north and one block to the west.
