Construction work is making rapid progress at 2653-61 Salmon Street, an eight-unit multi-family development situated in Olde Richmond, Kensington. The development involves a complete renovation of the single-floor structure, with an additional floor added to the building. In total, the structure will hold 14,195 square feet of space, with construction costs estimated at $900,000.

The original building featured a bland exterior with few windows and a pair of large garage doors that necessitated curb cuts on the sidewalk. The structure made the block less attractive, so having it revamped will certainly improve the surrounding area.

There has been steady progress on the project, with the builders carving holes on the façade to add additional windows. This makes the renovated exterior look much more pleasant while providing natural light for the interior. Framing work for roof deck access structures can also be seen at the top of the building.

YIMBY first reported on the development in April when permits were issued for the project. Therefore, all construction progress has occurred since that time, indicating the complex is moving along very quickly. The project is great for the surrounding area, adding more density to an existing building.

At this rate, construction will likely reach completion sometime in 2022.

  1. There’s not much there with Interstate 95 behind the building and a narrow street in front with vehicles parked on one side.

Although you have no direct transit to the door, if you walk down the block to the south, you can catch SEPTA bus route 39 and SEPTA bus route 43.

Without off-street parking, no visibility or nearby shopping, this is just not very desirable to me (and that’s just a simple fact).

You may find a corner deli a few blocks away, but the fact is that there is nothing nearby.

With bus departures every half-hour on weekends, you’re on your own.

  2. Or finished in December 2021?

  3. Brian’s severely ill informed comment is making my head spin.
