Construction is making steady progress at The Hive Residences, a 256-unit multi-family development underway at 107 North 7th Street in Allentown, PA. Designed by BERNARDON and developed by City Center Allentown, the complex will consist of two new buildings, each standing four stories tall, with retail space on the ground floor and live-work arrangements in select units.

The new building will boast modern exteriors, with white cladding covering the majority of the exterior and gray/brown brick and brown siding in prominent locations. Blue cladding acts as an accent and adds a texture to the design. Windows will all be of a relatively uniform shape that provides balance to the design.

Work is making steady progress, with framing having made it up to the third floor on Building 1, while ground work is underway at Building 2. A number of concrete cores have been topped out on Building 1. Framing lags a little farther behind, yet is beginning to take full shape. The building will present a pleasant street wall to the surrounding block and help transform the downtown landscape.

The new development is being built at the corner of 7th Street and Linden Street. A large surface parking lot spans most of the site, one of an unfortunately high number in the area. Across the street, however, the product of another City Center development can be seen, where STRATA Lofts added hundreds of new units to area within a large mid-rise that was one of the largest developments to occur in the city in a long time. By now, this type of project is becoming more commonplace as the development market continues to boom.

YIMBY will track more progress in the area moving forward. The development is expected to reach a completion in the summer of 2022.
