The 2nd place on Philadelphia YIMBY’s December Countdown December 2021 Development Countdown goes to The Laurel Rittenhouse at 1911 Walnut Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Harman Group as the structural engineer and the Hunter Roberts Construction Group as the contractor, the building now stands 599 feet and 48 stories tall, making it the ninth-tallest skyscraper in Philadelphia and the tallest residential building in Center City. The all-residential building will offer 185 rental units and 64 luxury condominiums.

At the moment, The Laurel Rittenhouse stands as the city’s tenth-tallest building, trailing just behind the 617-foot-tall W/Element Hotel, which was completed earlier this year and thus was not ranked on this year’s December Countdown.

The Laurel Rittenhouse was the most significant addition to the Philadelphia skyline over the course of the past year. When we looked at the development during last year’s December Countdown, the concrete superstructure stood sixteen stories tall. By now, the building stands topped out and nears exterior completion. Only four floors remain to be clad in the all-glass curtain wall, and assembly nears completion at the cross-braced parapet. Balcony railings still remain to be added, and a significant amount of work remains to be finished at the lower floors (as expected, as the area is used for construction staging). So far, the city’s tallest all-residential building appears to be on track for its anticipated completion in fall 2022.

  1. If you’ve got the money, go for it! 😉

You can walk to the Apple store, a Giant supermarket, 30th Street station, Drexel U, the subway lines and incredible views all around.

I’m surprised this is not #1.

This is such an important, exciting, fascinating, interesting and desirable property.

Now, I must wonder, what awaits for tomorrow’s top spot.

    The anticipation.
    The excitement.

Tune in tomorrow for the exciting conclusion of this epic countdown to New Year’s day! 😮
