April Showers bring May towers. Another week, another crane. This time, a tower crane has been observed at the site of Cathedral Place Phase 1 a 245-oot-tall, 23-story high-rise under construction at 222 North 17th Street in Logan Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, the structure will offer a total of 265,849 square feet of space, with 273 residential units, 3,000 square feet of retail, and 18 parking spaces.
The tower crane was erected at the site on Saturday, exactly seven days after a tower crane was added on the site of 2222 Market Street, just a short walk to the south. Like at 2222 Market, a mobile construction crane was brought to the property to help lift the crane segments into place.
With the tower crane now on site and ready, the structure will be ready to begin its vertical ascent. The crane is highly visible from most locations along the parkway, including the Art Museum’s steps. The tower’s frame could potentially be visible from that location by the end of summer.
Meanwhile, the foundation work is progressing quickly. YIMBY’s previous update on the site occurred in March, when excavation work was still in progress and no foundations had yet been poured. Now, concrete work is well underway, as trucks come and go throughout the day helping to move the structure towards completion.
Completion of the development is anticipated by 2024.
