Construction Progresses at Piazza Terminal in Northern Liberties, North Philadelphia

Construction is making rapid progress at Piazza Terminal, a multi-building mixed-use complex at 1075 Germantown Avenue in Northern Liberties, North Philadelphia. Philly YIMBY’s recent site visit revealed that a number of structures have risen several stories high at the 4.4-acre lot. Designed by BKV Group and developed by Post Brothers, the complex will yield 1,166,980 square feet and 1,144 residential units as well as a public promenade, retail, and parking. The tallest building will stand 16 stories and around 180 feet tall, with two more standing 12 stories tall.

The development is located just to the south of a large ACME supermarket on a long-vacant plot. The complex will rise prominently above the neighborhood where most buildings stand well below 100 feet. The only exception is the Waterfront Square towers next to the Delaware River, which stand nearly 300 feet tall. Philly YIMBY discussed the project in greater detail in a recent post.

In December 2019, construction permits were filed for the residential buildings. Less than a week after the permits were filed and approved, the project received financing for the final phase. Fences were erected in February 2020 and by the next month the entire lot was torn up. Excavation proceeded rapidly, and by summer, concrete columns rose above ground with two tower cranes erected. As of now, one of 130-foot towers that sits in the middle of the site is rising with a tower crane supporting the construction work.

The project is aiming for a completion date of December 2022.
