Last month, Philadelphia YIMBY reported on new lighting schemes that are decorating the nighttime skyline. Though it was already known that One Liberty Place at 1650 Market Street and the W/Element Hotel at 1441 Chestnut Street, both located in Center City, are having their lighting tested, both now feature together in the skyline, with new programming visible to the residents of the city. The lights on One Liberty Place, which used to be dimmer and had sections of the lighting noticeably lit a different color, the lights have now been fixed and brightened. The W/Element Hotel used to be a dark skyscraper in the night time skyline with just the aviation warning lights noticeable, but now the skyscraper is lit up nearly as much as the FMC Tower in University City.

The last set of photographs from the previous publication were all taken in New Jersey, showing how powerful the lights will be from quite a distance. Though the skyline is getting more lit up, there is currently a program that has multiple skyscrapers turn off their lights at 12 am for migrating birds. The program is called Light Out Philly and it is effective from April 1st to May 31st and August 15th to November 15th, which unfortunately (though fortunately for the birds) has completely left the spire lights of One Liberty Place turned off.

The most recent captures of the nighttime display were taken in Philadelphia, as some of the photographs are taken just a couple of blocks away from the two towers and from a distance as more photographs were taken in South Philadelphia. Both views showed the incredible displays still prominently standing out, as the lights on One Liberty Place appear to be the second brightest display in the skyline with the W/Element Hotel following on the list. The W/Element Hotel has ceased the colorful lighting cycle just days before the opening of the Element Hotel, as the lights are now just white as they turn off after shortly staying on during sunset. It is presumed that they are saving the lights for an incredible display for the July opening.

I noticed the lights on top of the CHOP Roberts Center (South Street at Schuylkill River) hasn’t been lit over the last few weeks. Wonder if they are fixing them?
