A recent site visit by Philly YIMBY has discovered that a 406-car multi-level garage, with is slated for demolition, continues to stand at the northwest corner of Filbert and North 38th streets at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center campus at 3800 Powelton Avenue in University City, West Philadelphia. The demolition is planned as part of an extensive overhaul of the medical campus, which includes the construction of a nine-story, 481,702-square-foot parking garage in the western section of the campus superblock.

The new garage, which is designed and engineered by Pennoni and THA Consulting, will increase the on-campus parking capacity to 1,483 spaces and will add retail space along Powelton Avenue. Permits for the demolition of the 3910 Building, a seven-story, 59,500-square-foot addiction treatment facility at 3910 Powelton Avenue, as well as for construction of the new garage, had been issued earlier this year.

The Penn Presbyterian Medical Center anchors the northern edge of University City and the adjacent West Powelton neighborhood; given its importance, we look forward to further development at the campus.
I’m sure this will be gone once the new one is open.
Are they going to build the new building and have they received permits? What’s the hold up?
