Built in the mid-1950’s, the Bulletin Building at 3025 Market Street in University City has started to become a hub for new development. When the entire Schuylkill Yards complex is complete, the Bulletin Building will be surrounded by the new towers, bringing a huge amount of space to University City in old and new buildings alike. The Bulletin Building is undergoing renovations with the main stages already complete.

In June, the Bulletin Building’s major renovation included the addition of red metal cladding to the east face of the building along with the Schuylkill Yards logo. These were finished within a few weeks, and now the metal letters are fitted with strips of light outlined by the metal, making the sign glow bright at night. The former parking lot that sat to the east of the building has now become Drexel Square, a 1.3-acre park surrounded by redwood trees.

Parts of Bulletin Building still feature the same cladding it sported back in the 1950’s, but the 21st century renovation brings more color to the area along with the park. Most of the east face has been replaced with floor to ceiling glass, with letters and numbers scattered over the glass as it fades from top to bottom. The glass is framed by a beautiful frame of red metal, and the horizontal rows run at an angle. By contrast, the vertical rows are curvy rather than angled; both rows reflect the sun while showing off the vibrant red-colored metal.

The anticipated completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2020.

  1. With the recent flurry of new residential construction announcements, I am surprised Brandywine has not moved forward more aggressively with the residential components of SYs. They seem to be falling behind.
