Philadelphia YIMBY’s recent site visit has confirmed the completion of construction at The Port at Aramingo, a four-story, 11-unit apartment complex situated at 801 Aramingo Avenue (alternately 801-11 Aramingo Avenue) in Fishtown, Kensington. Designed by HDO Architecture, the project spans 16,253 square feet. The complex offers rental apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms and amenities such as balconies, walk-in closets, parking, and roof decks, which offer views of the Center City skyline views. Permits list Process Contracting as the contractor and indicate a construction cost of $1.6 million.
When YIMBY last stopped by The Port at Aramingo in February, the building frame stood largely complete, with windows installed, yet still without a facade, aside from brick at the ground level. As of now, the structure appears fully finished.
The building matches rather closely the proposal seen in the original renderings, with a notable difference in the facade treatment, where black horizontal siding was replaced with a similarly-colored black (or dark gray) grid consisting of narrow vertical rectangular modules. Either look channeled a certain industrial appearance, appropriate for the neighborhood’s industrial heritage, while the brick at the first floor matches the surrounding rowhouses and adds a tactile touch at the pedestrian level.
The recently topped-out development rises on the northern side of the angled intersection of Aramingo Avenue and East Fletcher Street, just to the north of an Interstate 95 ramp. The route 43 and 89 buses also run in the vicinity.
801 Aramingo Avenue makes for an effective addition to an established, mixed residential and industrial neighborhood that has seen only minimal development in recent years. We wish to see more new construction in the vicinity in the near future.
