A recent site visit haas revealed that construction is nearly complete at One uCity Square, a mixed-use building in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by ZGF Architects and developed by Wexford Science & Technology, the University City Science Center, and Ventas Inc., with Turner Construction as the contractor, the $280-million, 13-story building will hold 389,000 square feet of office, laboratory, and retail space. The 250-foot-tall structure, also known as Wexford One uCity Square, is part of the greater mixed-use uCity Square development, which will feature 10.5 million square feet within 15 existing and 10 newly-constructed buildings. New construction will account for three-quarters of the total square footage.

The University City neighborhood in West Philadelphia is growing every year with new projects rising into the skyline. Designed by ZGF Architects and developed by Ventas Inc., the signature tower of One uCity Square at the 14-acre uCity Square development is well underway, as it approaches the final phases of construction. The building, located at 225 North 38th Street, rises to a height of 250 feet and 13 stories. The building makes for a refreshing design for the area, with the glass and metal exterior highlighting the jagged notches on the southeast corner.

The uCity Square development in University City, West Philadelphia, is coming along at a rapid pace. The main tower, One uCity Square at 3401 Market Street, is well underway to join the recently topped-out Drexel building, with structural steel continuing to rise. Designed by ZGF Architects, the 250-foot-tall, 13-story building will feature a blocky, Jenga-like massing with shifting, glass-clad sections. Out of the designs released so far, One uCity Square will be the center of attention as nit has the most eye-catching design. The building will top out at a full height of 250 feet and 13 stories. The tower will include office and lab space, with Century Therapeutics and Integral Molecular as tenants, as well as retail space.

The area to the west of the Schuylkill River, particularly University City, has seen much development news recently, including the pending construction of Schuylkill Yards. Another development is on the drawing boards for what is now a large empty plot of land at 3401 Market Street. One uCity Square is a 13-story office building developed by Ventas Inc. and designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership. The building’s height may not be impactful on the skyline, yet its 390,000 square feet of floor space will be a significant addition to the neighborhood.
