Renovation Underway at LOVE Park Welcome Center in Center City

Renovation work is in progress at the LOVE Park Welcome Center in LOVE Park in Center City. The two-story building stands across the street to the east of Suburban Station. The renovated structure will house a restaurant, with new lighting, exterior glass, interior and roof finishes, security, and mechanical systems. The restaurant will fit 50 to 55 patrons inside, while the balcony and terrace will seat 135 people. The architect of the project is Kieran Timberlake, who had also submitted a proposal for Penn’s Landing a number of years ago.

Permits Issued for Amazon Warehouse at 6901 Elmwood Avenue in Elmwood Park, Southwest Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the construction of an Amazon warehouse facility at 6901 Elmwood Avenue in Elmwood Park, Southwest Philadelphia. Once completed, the new building will rise one story tall. Office space and truck loading docks will also be included with the building. The warehouse will hold 141,360 square feet of space, with construction costs estimated at $30 million.

Observing the Comcast Technology Center Shortly After Crane Removal

The Comcast Technology Center at 1800 Arch Street in Center City has dominated the Philadelphia skyline ever since it became the city’s tallest skyscraper in 2017. The tower rises 62 stories and 1,121 feet tall, topped with a bright beacon. The tower was designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, who has done many well-known projects around the world notable for their exteriors of glass, metal, and decorative lighting. The developer of the project is Liberty Property Trust, which had also developed One Liberty Place when the company was known as Rouse and Associates under Willard Rouse. In this feature, Philadelphia YIMBY looks back at when the crane was first removed from the near-completed Comcast Technology Center.

Fireworks In The Decorated Skyline In Center City

Each year, the United States celebrates its birthday on July 4th, with evening fireworks being the highlight of the day. In Philadelphia, which was the nation’s capital between 1790 and 1800, a concert was held big name celebrities by the the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and fireworks, sponsored in large part by Wawa, launched as high as the Center City skyscrapers. The event was a tribute to America’s 245th birthday and the skyline was also lit up in the nations colors.

2222 Market Street Rises Above Ground in Center City West

Just a month after the erection of the tower crane, the steel structure is underway at 2222 Market Street in Center City West. The building is one of many projects transforming the west side of Center City. Designed by Gensler, the structure will rise 318 feet and 20 stories high and will feature a modern mix of glass, metal, and stone cladding. The building is developed by Parkway Commercial Properties, which used to operate the parking lot that used to occupy the block.
