Riverwalk, two 300-foot-plus towers under construction at the Schuylkill River waterfront at 60 North 23rd Street and 2301 JFK Boulevard, are on their way to bulk up the skyline. Located at the corner of 23rd and Cherry streets, the Gensler-designed pair is working its way to completion as they extend the Center City skyline to the west 331 and 380 residential units in the two towers. Filling the visual gap between the PECO Building and the Cira Center complex across the river, the two towers sit on a split 3-story podium connected by an angled sky bridge. A major amount of space in the podium is leased by the supermarket company GIANT, a supermarket franchise, is set to lease 65,000 square feet, with an original opening date scheduled for fall 2020. Though no announcement has yet been made, the opening date may be pushed back.

The reinforced concrete structure of the north tower worked its way to the top from August 2019 to May 2020. Sleek blue-glass cladding is now over halfway up the structure, and may reach the top by fall. While concrete is topped out, there is still a possibility of erection of steel frames on top of the north and south face to hold the cladding at the parapet, creating fins that rise above the roof as shown in the renderings.

Now that concrete work is done on the 315-foot north tower, concrete work has shifted to the angled 363-foot tower just to the south. The latter had been paused at 3 floors for a year due to the construction of the north tower, but now the core is back on the rise with the floor slabs to follow soon.

The towers are set to be completed in 2022, with the supermarket opening before the residential towers.

  1. This is a nicely done project and I’d love to see many more high rise projects along the way.

I’d love to see Philadelphia continue with a “world-class” skyline but the CITC and the current proposals for the Schuylkill Yards project kills whatever chance this city has plus the local economy nowadays isn’t helping.

  2. The location is really sweet. ?

Right along the Schuylkill river and facing the PECO building with the Comcast towers in the background, visible from the expressway.

That’s prime real estate right there! ??
