The two-tower Riverwalk complex, located at 60 North 23rd Street on the east bank of the Schuylkill River in Center City West, has gained prominence over the span of the past year, when the 315-foot-tall, 28-story north tower rose into the skyline and topped out over the summer. As of today, the tower is nearly fully sheathed in glass and the core of the taller, 363-foot-tall, 32-story south tower now standing around 10 stories tall and the concrete superstructure at around six stories. The project, developed by PMC Properties and designed by Gensler, will bring 711 residential units to the rapidly growing neighborhood. The two will be connected to by a bridge that connects the retail bases.
In Center City West, the two-tower Riverwalk development next to the Schuylkill River is steadily progressing with the 315-foot-tall, 28-story north tower topped out, and the core of the south tower rising around a quarter of its future 362-foot, 32-story height. The nearly identical towers, developed by PMC Properties and designed by Gensler, the development will bring a total of 711 residential units, with 331 residential units in the north tower and 380 units in the south tower. The pair will bring a total of over 100,000 square feet of floor space in a rapidly growing section of Center City.
The city of Philadelphia has been booming recently with skyscrapers and buildings of all shapes and sizes. While most of the new buildings have been proposed and built in Center City, the skyline is extending in all directions. The skyline made its first significant leap across the Schuylkill River back in 2005 with the 437-foot, 29-story Cira Centre; now, the area boasts three towers over 400 feet all within a few blocks of one another. The district may soon add a new supertall at the site of Schuylkill Yards, as seen on SHOP Architects renderings from 2016 (though the tower has been excluded from recent renderings).
Riverwalk, two 300-foot-plus towers under construction at the Schuylkill River waterfront at 60 North 23rd Street and 2301 JFK Boulevard, are on their way to bulk up the skyline. Located at the corner of 23rd and Cherry streets, the Gensler-designed pair is working its way to completion as they extend the Center City skyline to the west 331 and 380 residential units in the two towers. Filling the visual gap between the PECO Building and the Cira Center complex across the river, the two towers sit on a split 3-story podium connected by an angled sky bridge. A major amount of space in the podium is leased by the supermarket company GIANT, a supermarket franchise, is set to lease 65,000 square feet, with an original opening date scheduled for fall 2020. Though no announcement has yet been made, the opening date may be pushed back.
