Permits have been issued for the construction of a new multi-family building located at 2835 Poplar Street in Fairmount, North Philadelphia. Upon completion, the new building will rise four stories tall. There will be four residential units situated within the building, with each expected to be an apartment. Roof decks will be included with the building, with an access structure helping residents get to these outdoor features. In total, the structure will hold 5,700 square feet of space, and cost an estimated $750,000 to build. RDM-Construction LLC is the listed contractor for the project.
The new building will stand on the site of an existing three-story row home. The building features an attractive all-brick exterior, with a detailed cornice topping off the design. A small porch sits at the front of the building, something that separates it from many other similarly-styled homes in the area.
The removal of this home does not seem fully necessary, as the new project will be removing an existing original building on the intact block and instead replace it with something that will likely look different. Interior renovations and perhaps a fourth floor addition to add density would make more sense for the site, and would be a more favorable alternative. Still, looking at positives, the added three units to the site will help add to the area’s housing stock and support businesses in the area.
Girard Avenue sits a short walk to the north, where the Route 15 Trolley provides ample transit access. Fairmount Park is also a short walk to the west, providing residents with easy access to one of the largest urban green spaces on the continent.

2835 Fairmount Avenue is NOT 2835 Poplar Street.
Either change the headline or rewrite the article.
SEPTA trolley route 15 serves Girard Avenue, which is two city blocks from 2835 Poplar Street.
However, as is my duty to repair this article with the facts:
2835 Poplar Street is served by SEPTA bus routes 7, 32, 48 and 49 with various departure times.
NOTE: The SEPTA app is free on the App Store.
Hmm…was the article edited already? Don’t see where a Fairmount Ave address was mentioned.
The title was edited 5 minutes after I posted. 😉
Damn!! Can’t do that! That is a beautiful row of houses. Look at that cornice and the front door…who the hell ever approved tearing this down??
Why destroy a beautiful old row home for a ugly wooden built, without out any character, thing?!!??!
Every time I see this I seethe!
