Demolition status remains in an uncertain state at the site of Broad + Pine, a skyscraper planned at 337 South Broad Street, in Washington Square West, Center City. Designed by Cecil Baker + Partners, the building is planned to rise 361 feet and 23 stories tall, and contain 56 condominium units. The project is developed by Dranoff Properties, which is also behind Arthaus, a high-rise condo under construction just to the north up the block.

The three-story building has been standing on the site since 1945 and has accommodated multiple uses through the years. The structure’s most recent occupant was a Starbucks coffee shop at the ground floor. By August of last year, the business closed in preparation for the project could soon be underway. The interior appeared to have been gutted within the next few months, as the building looks totally empty when looking from the outside. By December, the ground level garage doors were open with men and vehicles inside.

Since the last report, banners promoting the Avenue of the Arts have been put up over the windows, blocking view of what is going on inside. During an in site tour of Arthaus, we asked the marketing president about the project. The answer was not definitely conclusive yet it appeared to indicate ongoing progress. Just recently on a walk around the site, once again the garage doors were open, showing an INTECH Construction truck inside the building. INTECH is responsible for the construction of Arthaus and multiple projects in the area.

  1. Definitely looking forward to this project, so hopefully they move along soon

  2. Now that Arthaus is wrapping up construction, we really need this development.
