A few months ago, during the beginning of spring, Philadelphia YIMBY published a feature that looked at major developments in Center City from the Walt Whitman Bridge. This 378-foot-tall, green-painted suspension bridge was completed in 1957, and has since transported millions of people between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The bridge span rises 153 feet above the Delaware River, and offers a fantastic view of the skyline to the northwest. The western side connects to the sports complex in South Philadelphia, while the east side joins Gloucester City, NJ. In this new feature, Philadelphia YIMBY presents an updated look at several major developments in the skyline as seen from the bridge.
The first on our list is The Laurel Rittenhouse, which has recently reached a significant construction milestone. The concrete roof of the building has been finished, and metal ties are being put in place to hold the steel that will soon be erected on top. The topping-out event will be held days from now on September 23rd, and Philadelphia YIMBY plans on reporting from the top on that date.
Closer to the cluster of the tallest towers, as seen from this perspective, Arthaus has joined the view and is looking more complete than ever. The building’s facade has reached the top at the south and east faces, the north side is being finished, and the west side lags slightly behind. The building looks very sharp and is executed just like the renderings, bringing a new brightness and modern class to the city’s skyline. Both towers are expected to be occupied next year, with Arthaus taking in residents first.

The Laurel in Rittenhouse Square is going to add density and visual detail to the skyline while the Arthaus is going to be a marker for the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, so no matter where you are in the city, you will know exactly where it is.
