The steel structure has topped out at One uCity Square at 3401 Market Street, located in the heart of the uCity Square mega-project in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by ZGF Architects and developed by Ventas Inc., the building, which now rises to its final height of 250 feet and 13 stories, is notable for its Jenga-like massing at its southeast corner.

The foundation was completed at the end of spring, when the site looked like a concrete rectangle sunken into the ground. Two tower cranes were erected shortly after the completion of the foundation, standing well over the final planned height of the building. At the start of the summer, steel started rising above ground at a very fast pace. By the latest update, the building stood over halfway up and the cranes were visible from various vantage points, along with the cranes for the nearby under-construction Drexel building.

The amount of progress over the course of the past two months has been very substantial. The steel structure stands out in the area, unexpectedly to someone who has not visited the neighborhood in some time, especially when walking around the uCity Square site. The two-story-tall penthouse is easy to make out at the very top of the building, as the entire steel structure is still exposed from the outside. Fireproofing is underway and the first six floors are now protected, while glass appears ready for installation as loads of panels were observed at the site.

The building is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2022.

  1. Check address.

  2. Address is definitely wrong. This is on the northwest corner of N 36th & Filbert (1 block north of Market)
