Philadelphia YIMBY’s recent site visit has confirmed that construction is complete at The Aster at 4550 Mitchell Street in RoxboroughNorthwest Philadelphia. Designed by Coscia Moos Architecture, the new building rises four stories, with a commercial space on the ground floor and 38 apartments. The development spans 41,942 square feet and features a roof deck with a green roof and space for 16 bicycles. Construction costs are listed at $3.2 million.

The building, clad in muted gray and brown brick and paneling, makes for a sophisticated presence. Its robust massing features angled cantilevered sections, balconies, and a large setback at the southern side.

      That’s one word that’s losing meaning every single day. If everything has character, then nothing has character. If the only definition of character is “old, rotten, dysfunctional” then I suppose builders should focus on buying up land, building an old looking dumpy 2 story building, sell it at a gigantic loss, so that we can have “character”. Because you know…that’s how the world operates…
