Construction Still Pending at 1301 Market Street in Market East, Center City

Philly YIMBY recently visited the site of a long-stalled proposal for an office tower at 1301 Market Street in Market East, Center City, half a block to the east of City Hall. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed by the Oliver Tyrone Pulver Corporation, the building will yield over 700,000 square feet, with floor plates at the lower levels measuring over 25,000 square feet and those at the upper floors at over 17,000 square feet.

A Look Back At The Unbuilt Park Tower In Center City

During its boom years in the 1980s and the 1990s, the Philadelphia skyline saw multiple tower proposals, many of which ended up not being built. Among these was Park Tower, located at 1501 Arch Street in Center City. Designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill, the two-towered development would include a 32-story, 480-foot-tall building on Cherry Street and the shorter high-rise standing 230 feet and 18 stories tall. The buildings would feature facades clad in red brick and white stone cladding. Today Philadelphia YIMBY looks back at the development and how it would fit into the skyline.

Revisiting Visionary Plans for a 30th Street Station District Plan Supertall in University City, West Philadelphia

Several years ago, plans have been revealed for a major megadevelopment to be built on a new deck above the Amtrak railyard on the banks of the Schuylkill River in University City, West Philadelphia. The project is called the Philadelphia 30th Street Station District Plan, as the first phase includes restoration of the historic 30th Street Station. Designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill and developed by Plenary Infrastructure Philadelphia, the master plan shows a large number of high-rises and a supertall skyscraper that would become the tallest, or one of the tallest, buildings in the city.

The eighth-tallest building on Philly YIMBY’s December 2020 Development Countdown is a 460-foot-tall, 32-story office tower proposed at 1301 Market Street in Market East, Center City, half a block to the east of City Hall. Designed by the the globally renowned firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed by the Oliver Tyrone Pulver Corporation, the massive building will yield over 700,000 square feet, with floor plates at the lower levels measuring over 25,000 square feet and those at the upper floors at over 17,000 square feet. Office Tower To Rise Near City Hall At 1301 Market Street

For well over a decade, a parking lot at 1301 Market Street spanned much of the block located just east of City Hall.
