Permits have been issued for the construction of a 15-unit mixed-use building at 2400 Frankford Avenue in Fishtown, Kensington. Designed by CANNOdesign and developed by Khosla Properties, the building will rise four stories tall, with a commercial space on the ground floor and 15 residential units above. Five bicycle spaces will also be included in the project. In total, the building will hold 17,972 square feet of space and cost an estimated $2.6 million to build. Tester Construction is listed as the contractor.

The building will feature a stately exterior with gray brick covering the near entirety of its facade. A brick grid will add detail and texture to the design, while an attractive, curved corner will contribute further extravagance. Large windows will let in ample natural light into the residential units.

The building will replace a surface parking lot surrounded by a chain link fence. In its current state, the site offers a bleak, gray sight that blights the vibrant surrounding neighborhood as an eyesore.

The development will be a great improvement for the surrounding area, replacing an eyesore on a bustling commercial corridor with an attractive mixed-use building that will provide new retail space, strengthen the corridor’s northern extent, and add density.
