Philadelphia YIMBY has recently made a site visit to the Live! Casino and Hotel at 900 Packer Avenue, where it has recently finished construction in the Sports Complex District in South Philadelphia. The 1.5 million-square-foot development opened on February 11th, with both the casino and hotel opening to the public. The hotel stands 14 stories tall and features 215 units. The complex was designed by Bower Lewis Thrower Architects, which has also designed Symphony House and was on the design team for the FMC Tower. The developers, the Cordish Company and Greenwood Racing and Entertainment, has also erected two other Live! Casino and Hotel’s in Pittsburgh and Maryland.
The previous update showcased the nearly completed building that would finished construction just 14 days after the publication. The last update also gave an in-depth timeline on the construction of the building, which features a mixture of steel and concrete structures. Around the city, multiple billboards advertised the complex. The giant screen on the northwest corner of the casino proclainmed in red with white letters that the casino is “Now Open.”
Recently, we took an up-close look at this new addition to the Sports Complex. The LED lighting on the building constantly cycles through various colors, with red, white, and blue being seen the most. The garage to the south is also open to the public, with five stories of parking available. When driving past the Sports Complex on the Interstate 95 toward the Walt Whitman Bridge, the casino and hotel reveals itself behind the Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park, with the Center City and University City skylines dramatically joining the view in the background.
