Construction work is underway on Oxford Row, a townhouse complex located at 1408-18 Oxford Street in Fishtown, Kensington. Designed by Ambit Architecture, the development will consist of seven new single-family residences, each rising four stories tall. A drive aisle will cut across the sidewalk where a small parking lot for residents will be located at the rear of the development.

The homes will have two differently themed exteriors, with five taking on an industrial look and others featuring a more modern glass exterior. These will sit in a row on the eastern side of the block. The homes will feature primarily red brick exteriors with brick extending through the bottom three floors, and they will include black cladding located on a setback at the fourth floor to add texture. Large windows will be situated on the facade in orderly rows and will provide an abundance of natural light to reach the interiors.

The modern homes will be located on the western side of the site and will be the larger of the two styled homes. Their exteriors will be consumed almost entirely of glass with black cladding providing the occasional interruption. The drive aisle will be located between the two homes, giving the architects the opportunity to add more windows and design extravagance to the building’s non street-facing facades. Here, more windows will be included as well as wood-styled cladding that adds more texture to the design.

Work is currently underway on the homes with site prep underway and excavation equipment present on-site. Foundation work has yet to commence.

The new homes, located at the intersection of East Oxford Street and Belgrade Street, are replacing a former industrial structure. The building featured a bland brick and stucco exterior and served as an under-utilized lot in the center of the vibrant neighborhood.

The new homes will present a much more efficient use of space bringing seven residential units to a site formerly occupied by zero. Given its location just steps off of the Frankford Avenue corridor, the homes will likely be in demand with the new residents adding to the neighborhood’s customer base. The project is in tandem with another development progressing  just across the street, at 1408-18 East Oxford Street where 42 residential units are under construction. That project also replaced an industrial structure that was under the same ownership as the one formerly present at this site.
