The concrete structure is nearly topped out at One Cathedral Square, a 244-foot-tall, 23-story residential rising at 1701 Race Street in Logan Square, Center City, a block south of from the Vine Street Expressway. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Exeter Property Group, with the Hunter Roberts Construction Group as the contractor, the building is part of Cathedral Square, a block-spanning development that will also include the 470-foot-tall Two Cathedral Square tower.

The 30th Place on YIMBY’s December 2021 Development Countdown goes to One Cathedral Square, a 244-foot-tall, 23-story residential structure that currently stands nearly topped out at 1701 Race Street in Logan Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Exeter Property Group and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the building will feature 273 condominium residences, as well as retail space at the ground floor. Hunter Roberts Construction Group is the project contractor.

YIMBY recently published the long-awaited reveal of the plans for Two Cathedral Square at 227 North 18th Street in Logan Square, Center City. The new building that will join the north side of the Philadelphia skyline as part of the Cathedral Square development. Developed by EQT Exeter and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the tower will soon rise to a height of 470 feet and will feature a curvy, angled parapet, standing 34 stories above ground. The building was designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, which has also designed Philadelphia buildings such as The Murano, The Laurel Rittenhouse, and 33 North 22nd Street. Philadelphia YIMBY’s First Anniversary Countdown, which looks at the most frequently mentioned article categories over the course of the past year, finds architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz at number 23 out of the more than 1,800 analyzed categories, with a total of 34 tags amassed during the period. The company, which is (spoiler alert) the only architecture firm to feature in the entire Countdown, owes its high ranking to both a large number of significant ongoing developments and our prolific coverage of such.

Cathedral Square Phase One Rises Above Ground At 222 North 17th Street In Logan Square, Center City

A portion of the ground floor has been constructed at Cathedral Square Phase 1 at 222 North 17th Street in Logan Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Exeter Property Group, the reinforced concrete building will stand 245 feet and 23 stories tall and will be visible from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with an all-glass skin that angles in and out. The tower will be a part of the Cathedral Square development (formerly known as Cathedral Place), which also includes Cathedral Square Phase 2, a massive tower proposed to the north. The building’s crane is one of over a dozen tower cranes currently stand in multiple locations in Philadelphia, with most located in Center City.

Machinery Arrives at Cathedral Square Phase One at 222 North 17th Street in Logan Square, Center City

Excavation appears imminent for Cathedral Square Phase One, a 245-foot-tall tower proposed for 222 North 17th Street in Logan Square, on the northern fringe of Center City. The 23-story building is developed by Exeter Property Group and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as part of the two-tower Cathedral Square development, which will rise next to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Phase One, located at the southeast corner of the block-spanning project, will replace a parking lot with a three story building. The structure will span 265,849 square feet and will offer a total of 273 residential units, over 3,000 square feet of retail space, and 18 underground parking spaces. The tower was designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, which has designed many recent projects across the city.

Cathedral Square Phase Two Awaits Design Reveal in Logan Square, Center City

At number one on Philly YIMBY’s December 2020 Development Countdown is Cathedral Square Phase Two, a 685-foot-tall tower planned for 1700 Vine Street in Logan Square, Center City. The skyscraper is part of Cathedral Place, a proposed redevelopment of the block-sized archdiocesan campus centered on the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, a block east of Logan Square. The development will also include a new 23-story high-rise. The taller tower will be designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, though only a general massing is available at this point. The model shows a bulky building with a lower section to the west that steps up toward the tower. Our site visit has revealed no construction activity yet at the tower site, which is occupied by a low-rise structure and a parking lot. Both towers are being developed by Exeter Property Group.
