Riverwalk South Tower Reaches Halfway Point in Center City West

The 32-story, 380-unit Riverwalk South, the taller component of the two-tower Riverwalk project has risen to the halfway point at 60 North 23rd Street in Center City West. The tower will soon be 362 feet tall next to its 315-foot companion to the north. While the north tower is horizontally aligned with the streets of Philadelphia, the south tower sits at a 20-degree angle that makes the wide south elevation of the building face the Schuylkill River. Designed by Gensler and developed by PMC Property Group, the complex will feature a total of 711 units and retail space in the towers’ three-story bases that are split by Arch Street.

Cladding Nearly Finished at Riverwalk North in Center City West

Construction progress continues at Riverwalk, a pair of residential towers at 60 North 23rd Street in Center City West.The development has already made an impact on the skyline as the north tower has nearly wrapped up the glass and metal exterior. The development will have a total of 711 units, with 331 units located in the north tower, which will open ahead of the south tower. Designed by Gensler and developed by PMC Property Group, which has a number of properties across the city, the 315-foot-tall, 28-story tower features a façade of high quality glass and metal that echoes the Schuylkill River to the west, where the metal forms waves transformed by natural light throughout the day. The concrete-framed structure replaces a large parking lot.

Excavation Nearly Complete On Foundation Of 2222 Market Street in Center City

Foundation excavation is nearly complete at 2222 Market Street, where a 20-story structure will soon rise. Designed by Gensler and developed by Parkway Commercial Properties, the glass clad building with stone highlights will replace a 21,000-square-foot parking lot. The 329,100-square-foot building will stand around 300 feet tall, adding a substantial amount of floor space to Center City West.

Crown Lights Restored Atop the PECO Building at 2301 Market Street in Center City West

An upgrade has been completed for the lighting array atop the PECO Building at 2301 Market Street in Center City West. Designed by H2L2 (Harbeson, Hough, Livingston & Larson), the building was completed in 1970, which was soon followed by a number of major high-rise developments in Center City. The tower rises to a total of 27 stories and 384 feet, an an impressive height for its time. While the tower does not feature an outstanding design, it is widely known for its tenant, the PECO Energy Company, which serves customers across the tri-state area and all over the country. However, the tower is best known for its 38-foot-high screen spanning every face on top of the tower, measuring 148 feet across on the north and south façades and 71 feet across the east and west faces. Over the decades, more than 17,500 digital messages have scrolled across the display.

Riverwalk North Tower Interiors Underway, South Tower Nearing Halfway Point in Center City West

One of the most visible projects in progress in Center City is the two-towered Riverwalk development at 60 North 23rd Street, which ranks at number 13 on Philly YIMBY’s December 2020 Development Countdown. The project is designed by Gensler and the developed by PMC Property Group, which is behind a number of projects in the surrounding Center City West neighborhood. The 315-foot-tall, 28-story north tower is topped out and the south tower, which will stand 362 feet and 32 floors tall, is nearing the halfway point. The two hulking structures, located just to the west of the Schuylkill River and the Schuylkill Trail, already dominate the area. Both rise from a massive base that was originally planned to be connected by a glass-covered sky bridge. The development will yield a total of 711 residential units, with 331 units in the north tower and 380 units in the south tower.
