Potential Activity At One uCity Square in University City, West Philadelphia

The area to the west of the Schuylkill River, particularly University City, has seen much development news recently, including the pending construction of Schuylkill Yards. Another development is on the drawing boards for what is now a large empty plot of land at 3401 Market Street. One uCity Square is a 13-story office building developed by Ventas Inc. and designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership. The building’s height may not be impactful on the skyline, yet its 390,000 square feet of floor space will be a significant addition to the neighborhood.

Construction Begins on Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions in University City, West Philadelphia

Development continues to expand at an unabated pace across University City. At 3601 Filbert Street, Drexel has started construction of Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions, combining offices with university classrooms. The new building will stand 185 feet tall with 12 floors and yield 174,000 square feet. Ballinger is the architect and the engineer of record for the building.

Construction Finishes at The Chestnut at 3720 Chestnut Street, University City

Over the past few years, University City has ushered a pretty long list of new and proposed 300-foot-plus residential towers. Another such tower now joins the “completed” list as The Chestnut at 3720 Chestnut Street, boasting a full height of 344 feet, has recently opened its 420 apartments. The new tower, designed by SITIO Inc and developed by EGP Urban Multifamily, has brought 427,100 square feet to University City.

Over the pat three years, a massive structure has risen at 300 South 33rd Street, making a impact on the hospital district in University City. The 17-story Pavilion rises to a height of 343 feet with 500 rooms added to Penn Medicine. The 1.5 million-square-foot building has a similar square footage and same architect (Foster and Partners) as the tallest skyscraper in Philadelphia, the Comcast Technology Center.
