YIMBY Shares Extensive Renderings and Floor Plans for Drexel’s 3201 Cuthbert Street in University City, West Philadelphia

Last month, YIMBY shared renderings and project details for Drexel University’s 12-story, half-million-square-foot mixed-use building proposed at 3201 Cuthbert Street (alternately 3200 Arch Street) in University City, West Philadelphia. Today YIMBY takes an in-depth look at the project’s architecture and interior organization via additional diagrams and renderings. The 252-foot-tall structure (measuring from Cuthbert Street) will house 423,450 square feet of office and life sciences laboratory space, 12,365 square feet of retail on the lower two floors, 141 parking spaces in an underground garage spanning 56,802 square feet, and 12,887 square feet of accessory areas. The project team consists of Drexel University as the owner, Gattuso Development Partners (GDP) as the developer, and Robert A.M. Stern Architects (aka RAMSA) and Kendall Heaton Associates as the architects; the team also includes the firms Thornton Tomasetti, Burohappold Engineering, James Corner Field Operations, Perroni, and West 8.

The area to the west of the 30th Street Station in University City, West Philadelphia, is expanding significantly, where the 14-acre Schuylkill Yards project is underway. 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, the latest tower rising in the area, has reached a new milestone as curtain wall assembly has begun. Designed by the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism and developed by Brandywine Realty Trust, the skyscraper will rise to a height of 361 feet and 28 stories.

Demolition Underway at 3151 Market Street in University City, West Philadelphia

Construction on 3151 Market Street, the second building in the 14-acre Schuylkill Yards project in University City, West Philadelphia, will soon be underway as demolition has commenced at the site. The building will stand alongside 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard and eventually 3001 John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Designed by Gensler and developed by Brandywine Realty Trust (which is also developing all of Schuylkill Yards), the 495,000-square-foot project will rise to a height of 226 feet and 14 stories high. The building will be mostly comprised of office and laboratory space, with retail on the ground floor.

Permits have been issued for the construction of a single-story substation structure at 3817 Spruce Street at the University of Pennsylvania campus in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by Pennoni Associates and O Z Collaborative, the structure, officially known as Replacement Substation #4, will be located at the interior of the superblock bound by Spruce Street to the south, Walnut Street to the north, South 38th Street to the east, and South 40th Street to the west, and will span 1,880 square feet. Permits list HSC Builders & Construction as the contractor and a construction cost of $3.3 million.
