Observing the Comcast Technology Center Shortly After Crane Removal

The Comcast Technology Center at 1800 Arch Street in Center City has dominated the Philadelphia skyline ever since it became the city’s tallest skyscraper in 2017. The tower rises 62 stories and 1,121 feet tall, topped with a bright beacon. The tower was designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, who has done many well-known projects around the world notable for their exteriors of glass, metal, and decorative lighting. The developer of the project is Liberty Property Trust, which had also developed One Liberty Place when the company was known as Rouse and Associates under Willard Rouse. In this feature, Philadelphia YIMBY looks back at when the crane was first removed from the near-completed Comcast Technology Center.

Looking Back at the Construction of the TRIAD1828 Centre in Camden, New Jersey

One of the largest developments in the city of Camden was constructed just a few years ago. The project, called the TRIAD1828 Centre, stands next to the Delaware River and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, which is not far from where the Campbell’s Stadium used to stand. The tower stands 18 stories above the ground, with a full height rising 220 feet high. The first seven levels are designated for a parking garage, with office floors rising above the parking podium. The building was originally developed by Liberty Property Trust, which backed out and allowed NFI Corp., Conner Strong & Buckelew, and the Michaels Organization to take over ownership of the property. The project went through several design iterations, with one featuring a curving glass tower standing as high as the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The final design was crafted by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.

A Look Back at the Aramark Headquarters Renovation at 2400 Market Street in Center City West

Aramark, a food service provider, has been based in the Philadelphia area for many years, with the company’s headquarters is located in Center City. Before the its present location at 2400 Market Street by the Schuylkill River, the company was headquartered at 1101 Market Street in Market East. Designed by Varenhorst Architects and Gensler and developed by the PMC Property Group, the new headquarters involved a renovation of an existing structure with a five-story extension built at the top. The renovated building stands nine stories, bringing a modern design to an area where older architecture predominates. The project also includes retail, residential, and office space.

Excavation Nearly Complete At 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard In University City, West Philadelphia

Excavation is nearly complete for the first Schuylkill Yards tower at 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia. The 361-foot tall high-rise is also known as Schuylkill Yards West. Located to the northwest of the Bulletin Building, the 28-story tower will soon join Evo and the FMC Tower on the local skyline. The building is designed by the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, which had also designed 3001 John F. Kennedy Boulevard (aka Schuylkill Yards East) and the Bulletin Building renovation. Brandywine Realty Trust is the developer behind both the building and the entire 14-acre complex.

Schuylkill Yards Bulletin Building is Completed at 3025 Market Street in University City, West Philadelphia

Interior work has recently been completed at the Bulletin Building at 3025 Market Street in University City, West Philadelphia. The building, which is the first structure within the Schuylkill Yards complex, rises nearly 100 feet above the ground and stands five stories tall, with a new modern exterior and freshly renovated floor space. The building renovation was designed by KieranTimberlake and the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, with the latter also having designed Schuylkill Yards’ first skyscrapers, Schuylkill Yards East at 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Schuylkill Yards West at 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Brandywine Realty Trust is the developer for both the building and the entire 14-acre complex.

2222 Market Street Rises Above Ground in Center City West

Just a month after the erection of the tower crane, the steel structure is underway at 2222 Market Street in Center City West. The building is one of many projects transforming the west side of Center City. Designed by Gensler, the structure will rise 318 feet and 20 stories high and will feature a modern mix of glass, metal, and stone cladding. The building is developed by Parkway Commercial Properties, which used to operate the parking lot that used to occupy the block.

Tower Cranes Erected At One uCity Square In University City, West Philadelphia

Two massive tower cranes have been erected at One uCity Square in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by ZGF Architects and developed by Ventas Inc., the building is a part of a 14-acre mega project, dubbed uCity Square. Out of the designs released so far, One uCity Square will be the center of attention as nit has the most eye-catching design. The building will top out at a full height of 250 feet and 13 stories. The tower will include office and lab space, with Century Therapeutics and Integral Molecular as tenants, as well as retail space.

Looking Back At The Testing Of The Lantern On The Comcast Technology Center

The Comcast Technology Center at 1800 Arch Street in Center City was completed on August 12, 2019, when the hotel portion officially opened, becoming the tallest skyscraper in Philadelphia. The tower stands 1,121 feet and 60 stories tall, with a central concrete core and steel floor plates. The skyscraper was designed by Foster and Partners, which has designed several buildings that features metal highlights and bright lighting features, and developed by Liberty Property Trust, which used to be known as Rouse and Associates when Willard G. Rouse III ran the company before his death. Today YIMBY looks at the process of testing the lighting at the building’s lantern around the time of its completion.

A Look at Commerce Square, Philadelphia’s Twin Towers

Philadelphia is home to many skyscrapers designed by well-known architects from around the world. Among these are the twin towers of Commerce Square, which were designed by the renowned firm of I.M. Pei & Partners. The 565-foot-tall One Commerce Square and Two Commerce Square towers are still prominent on the Philadelphia skyline to this day, and they take up an entire city block at 2001 Market Street and 2005 Market Street in Center City. Both of the 41-story structures are framed in steel, and each is topped with a decorative diamond on the east and west faces. Maguire Thomas Partners was the developer of the towers at the time of the completion of One Commerce Square in 1987 and five years when Two Commerce Square was completed, which was also the time when the developers decided to split their partnership.

Looking at Two Liberty Place, Philadelphia’s Fourth-Tallest Building, in Center City

The majority of the skyscrapers that dominate the Philadelphia skyline are the trophy towers that were built in the late 1980s. One of these buildings is the 848-foot-tall, 58-story Two Liberty Place at 50 South 16th Street in Center City, the city’s fourth-tallest building. The skyscraper is a part of the Liberty Place complex that consists of two towers connected by a mall and a hotel. The skyscraper was designed by Helmut Jahn, who also designed buildings such as MesseTurm in Frankfurt, Germany, 50 West Street in New York City, and the Bank of America Tower in Jacksonville, Florida, among many others. The developer of the project was Rouse and Associates, which eventually transformed into Liberty Property Trust, which built both of the Comcast skyscrapers that today dominate the skyline.
