The Chestnut at 3720 Chestnut Street is Complete in University City, West Philadelphia

A number of towers have risen recently in University City, including the recently completed Chestnut at 3720 Chestnut Street. At 344 feet and 29 stories in height, the building ranks at number 20 on Philly YIMBY’s December 2020 Development Countdown. Designed by SITIO Architecture + Urbanism and developed by EPG Urban Multifamily, the structure brings 420 units to the rapidly growing area, offering studios and apartments for students of the many nearby universities and colleges as well as for the general public. Cladding reached the top at the end of 2019, and Philly YIMBY’s August update showed it was stated that construction fences still lingered near the top of the building and cladding was almost finished. Since then construction has wrapped completely.

New Renderings Revealed for Schuylkill Yards in University City, West Philadelphia

New renderings have been revealed for the Schuylkill Yards megadevelopment situated on the western bank of the Schuylkill River in University City in West Philadelphia. The project has been in planning for years, and construction has finished on the Bulletin Building as well as Drexel Square, the first phase and center point for the development. Earlier this year, construction timelines have been announced for three more proposed towers. Now, developer Brandywine Realty has unveiled more renderings with updated designs.

Exterior Work Wraps on Pavilion at 300 South 33rd Street in University City, West Philadelphia

After three years of construction, Pavilion, a steel behemoth in the hospital district of University City in West Philadelphia, nears completion. Located at 300 South 33rd Street, the building was designed by Foster + Partners at a height of 343 feet and 17 stories with a total square footage of 1.5 million square feet, the same amount as the Comcast Technology Center (also designed by Foster + Partners). The structure will roughly double the number of hospital beds at Penn Medicine. The Pavilion rises from the former site of the 254-foot-tall, 20-story Penn Tower, completed in 1974, demolished to make room for this massive development.

CHOP Hub For Clinical Collaboration Arrives on the Skyline in University City, West Philadelphia

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is adding yet another building to a high-rise medical services cluster taking over the southern part of University City. The CHOP Hub For Clinical Collaboration is a 377-foot-tall, 19-story building located at 3501 Civic Center Boulevard, designed by Perkins+Will, which will add 560 beds to the hospital. While the tower’s height will significantly alter the part of the skyline located in an area limited to under 400 feet, the more than 550,000 square feet of floor space will make a big impact on the area and the city.

Two uCity Square to Rise at 225 North 38th Street in University City, Philadelphia

Two uCity Square, a 15-story office building that is part of the greater uCity Square development, is slated to rise at 225 North 38th Street in University City in West Philadelphia. Permits have already been filed for the construction of the foundation, the core, and the tower shell. The 498,023-square-foot high-rise will contain office, research and development, and retail space, as well as three loading bays, 329 parking spaces, and 91 bicycle spaces. Most of these amenities will be located underground. A green roof will be built atop the structure.
